Abstract
|
In this era of globalization when our country Malaysia also practices open market
strategy, higher education organizations have been set up rapidly. Today, higher
education is more accessible to a wider clientele who have the choice to select either
public universities or private institution, and Wawasan Open University (WOU) is one
of the well-known private university that many people would like to choose as an
institution to improve their academic and professional standing, especially the working
adults or the senior citizens.
The purpose of this particular study is to obtain/gauge the perception of students
pursuing distance learning programs in Wawasan Open University (WOU) in Johor
Bahru Regional Office, Malaysia, in terms of their intended discretionary collaborative
behavior (IDCB). Its specific objective is to examine the demographic background of
students for the following areas such as races, gender, age, marital status, religion and
culture background, personality, perception, attitudes, mood, emotion etc. Apart from
that, the ability of making judgement, taking decision and practicing of group work are
clearly the behavior shown in WOU JB.
This type of survey on the students help to get the information sources for the
development of marketing strategies which will exist a more happy environment of
study for the wellness of students and the staff of universities, besides gather the
students’ feedback for a better WOU management decision making and marketing
strategies for the benefit of both students and WOU in a win-win situation.
The sample for this study is gathered from the vetted name lists and e-mail address of 80
respondents among the undergraduate and postgraduate selected randomly that are
provided by WOU JB. Therefore these findings are not representing the similar
perceptions when view by others who are not the WOU students. Another limitation
would be the lack of cost and duration of time to conduct this study. This research would
worth if the study is expanded to the students in other learning centres in order to
eliminate the possible error caused by small sample size, which can also improve the
reliability and accuracy of the results
For students of higher education organization, collaborative behaviors can be reflected
through several objects. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) classified students in
university as: extraverted versus introverted, sensing versus intuitive. and thinking
versus feeling.
From what the researcher observed at the current students in WOU JB, collaborative
behavior are still not strong. Thus, it is important to prepare this research “Empirical
Study On Students’ Intended Discretionary Collaborative Behaviors (IDCB) In
Wawasan Open University (WOU) in more specific view.
