Market acceptance level of RFID cargo shipment tag system (ISO/PAS 18186:2010) for freight containers in Malaysia / Choong Huck Liang
|
Abstract
|
Container shipments are the most important form of transportation of goods around
the world. More than 90% of non-bulk cargos are moved by container vessel (Rod
Vulovic, 1999; Downey, 2006) and increasing 7% annually (Downey, 2006). Many
stakeholders such as customs, port authorities, port operators, shipping liners, and
shippers are looking at ways to improve security and increase efficiency. One of the
initiatives taken by ISO Technical committees TC 104 for freight containers was the
drafting of a new RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) CargoShipment Tag
System. In July 2010, the ISO/PAS 18186:2010 RFID Cargo Shipment Tag System
for freight containers (ISO 18186 2010) was published with objectives to improve
freight container logistics transparency and efficiency.
This research is to access the Market acceptance level of RFID Cargo Shipment Tag
System (ISO/PAS 18186:2010) for freight containers in Malaysia and answer some
of the question on what are the important factors that may influence the adoption of
this system. The research was conducted during two seminars of awareness for RFID
Cargo Shipment Tag System among container users in Malaysia. The results
concluded that Perceived Benefit is the most important factors that influence the
adoption of this system. Understanding these important factors can help to promote
better planning and implementation of RFID Cargo shipment Tag system.
