Abstract
|
High-tech industry plays a vital role in the Malaysian economy. To survive in
today’s rapidly changing business scene, organizations must continually strive to
improve its own business practices. In the last fifteen years, Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) systems can be considered to be one of the most major developments
in the corporate use of information technology and being recognized as an
organizational competitive advantage. This research aims to identify the factors
influencing ERP adoption in manufacturing sector. Based on a thorough review of
numerous literature, four main independent variables have been identified which will
partly form the backbone of this research. The independent variables are holistic data
and information management, effective decision making, elimination of duplication
of efforts and organizational competitive advantage enhancement. Holistic data,
elimination of duplication of efforts and competitive advantage enhancement has
been found to be significant variables which support ERP adoption and
implementation. Elimination of duplicate efforts has been to be the most significant
contributor among the 3 independent variables.
