Abstract
|
The research study was conducted in an international school located in Kuala Lumpur to determine the extensiveness and appropriate reading programme. A mixed-method approach was used consisting of both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analytic techniques. A survey in the form of an interview was conducted on a total of 7 teachers and 273 students out of which 135 are male students and 138 female students. The students’ age ranges between 13 year olds (Year 7) to 17 year olds (Year 11). The school follows the Cambridge syllabus from the United Kingdom. The qualitative data comes from the interviews of the teachers and students about the reading programme in the school which focuses on their personal views towards the lessons and how the programme was carried out. The interviews were done on a face-to-face method with the teachers and focus group with the students. This study helps to provide rich and valuable information which answer questions related to the hows and whys of an effective reading programme in the school.
