Abstract
|
The retirement is still a vague issue amongst most Malaysians. There are a lot of
retirement plans or products being promoted by financial institution and yet the initiative
to save for retirement is side stepped by many. Numerous of studies have shown that
money that saved in company or government pension plan may not be sufficient for
future needs. Applicable solutions can be put in place by knowing the factors influencing
retirement plans. This study aims to help the government and public to be more aware of
and also prepare for retirement. After reviewing a number of literatures, the researcher proposed a theoretical framework
with five (5) independent variables and one (1) dependent variable. Based on these
concepts, the five main suggested hypotheses were tested among the factors. The results
of the collected data supported the formulated hypotheses. The results indicated that
relationship were existed between saving, financial stress, healthcare, job satisfaction and
organizational policies and practices against retirement plan among employees at Bayan
Lepas Industrial Zones, Penang. Lastly, the researcher provides recommendation to the
government in order to create greater awareness on the importance of starting a
retirement planning earlier.
