Abstract
|
ABC Chemicals is one of the largest manufacturing petrochemicals industry in Malaysia and it has a capacity of producing 800KTA of Olefins and polyolefin products to supply to local as well as oversea market demand. However, the safety performance has been deteriorating in the past five years which has been recorded increasingly of loss time injuries from 1-2 case to more than 2 cases per year and total incidences has also rose from 32 cases to 55 cases in peak year of 2010. In 1st half of 2012, three lost time injuries cases were reported. It is a big concern from the management team, employees as well as contractors. A study project was conducted by carried out a plant wide base on focus group survey across the organization and the result of study shown that three main factors that lead to drops in safety performance in are mainly from lack of experience, lack of safety knowledge and lack of safety awareness. Although the research has not fully reached it aim at this preliminary stage, there are some unavoidable limitations. The research was conducted only on a small sample size of population. Therefore, to generalize the result for larger groups will need to involved more participants at different level. There is also a time limitation. The survey was conducted in a very short time and may affect the accuracy of the result. We would recommend that further study in the organization behavior and culture and adopt all the best practices from the relevant industries to bring the organization safety performance to next level in future.
