Abstract
|
Purpose: To predict and explore the relationships between the organizational
commitment level, and compensation & benefits, trust, employee relation and
performance management among white-collar employees in Klang Valley and Northern
Peninsula of Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach: A cross-sectional survey whereby data was collected
via a set of questionnaire. A sample of 60 white-collar employees around the Klang
Valley and Northern Peninsula Malaysia was selected by this study.
Findings: The results of statistical data analysis suggested there is a significant positive
relationship between the organizational commitment level, and trust, performance
management, employee relation and compensation & benefits.
Research limitations: The research has not taken into account the effects of intervening
and moderating variables (for example: industry type, organizational structure, business
unit and company size) on the relationship between organizational commitment level
and the independent variables.
Practical implications: The research implies an inverse phenomenon which contradicts
to the argument (of general belief) on ompensation & benefits is the most important
factor affecting the organizational commitment level. The study also suggests that
change of generation and era affects the mind-set.
Originality/value: This paper offers assistance to human resource managers to improve
organizational commitment level. Smaller organizations who are normally lack of
sufficient resources can also selectively work on factors affecting organizational
commitment level as per the finding of this research. Thus, the findings of this research
will assist organizations in their talent retention strategies and human resource
management in order to maximize organizations’ outputs and results.
Keywords: Organization, commitment, trust, employee relation, performance
management, compensation & benefits.
