Abstract
|
This study explored the effective characteristics of student-centered teaching in distance learning context in a private university in Malaysia. Total of three tutors were interviewed to provide insightful information based on their experiences. The samples were selected via purposive sampling and interview was used as the primary source of data collection. Four major themes emerged from the qualitative data analysis, namely, role of instructors and learners, equal opportunity for active participants, group work and continuous support. Findings of the study also revealed that student-centered teaching practice allowed for students’ active and meaningful participation in the learning process. Participation in student-centered teaching, especially in distance learning, is imperative for adult learners not to feel isolation in their study experience.
