Abstract
|
The research objective is to study the effects of the 5 elements of Emotional Intelligence (self-awareness, self-management, internal motivation, social awareness and relationship management) on organisational stress among engineers in Penang Electrical & Electronic Industry. Recent research has shown that almost 70% of Malaysian employees are experiencing stress-induced sickness due to the global economic crisis. EI has drawn considerable attention due to its association with professional achievement when compared to the traditionally measurement of Intelligent Quotient (IQ). Emotional intelligence (EI) is defined as a collection of abilities in dealing with one emotions and sensitivity to others’ emotions. Past research had shown that EI plays an important role in stress management at workplace. The literature review highlights the needs to study on EI elements and organisational stress. This research data collection was done through online questionnaire and a total of 104 respondents was recorded. Descriptive, Correlation and Regression analysis shows that all 5 EI elements has inverted relationship and significant correlation with organisational stress. Therefore, Emotional Intelligence plays a vital role in stress management among Penang engineers in the E&E Industry.
