Abstract
|
In human resource management, motivation has been one of the most difficult
and important subject. Further, due to the business environment changes quickly and
becomes more competitive, enhancing the motivation level among the workforce
become more challenging and utmost important especially among the critical worker.
High motivation level in the workplace will increase critical employees retention and
to increase desirable behaviors in the organization.
The purpose of this research is to review the factors that enhance the
motivation level among the critical and high-performance employees in the
workplace. In this study, the population is derived exclusively from the MPH
Bookstores workforce. The most significant finding of this study was that immediate
supervisor plays the most important role in enhancing the motivation level among the
critical staffs in a business unit. Though, there are many research papers’ on this
subject, this result is important as this finding is in Malaysia context unlike the earlier
published paper. Hence, this study may provide a new direction for the human
resource practitioners in Malaysia to consider when formulating their strategy.
Secondly, result in this study also showed the significant positive relationship
between organization characteristics and motivation level. Hence, it is recommended
that human resource strategy should include on formulating a more comprehensive
development program and better job design to increase the motivation level in the
workplace.
Lastly but not the least, based on the findings of this study, the author made a
few recommendations that may be implemented immediately and without additional
major resources. Further, the author also explains how these efforts will serve as a
strategy to improve motivation level which will increase retention rate among the
critical employees.
