Title Corporate social responsibility practices and their implications towards firm performance a study among SMEs in Malaysia / Fazilah bt Sirajuddin
Abstract SMEs have long been recognised as the backbone to any economy as they have been an important generator of employment and growth. Why companies should be interested in CSR? Companies must ensure that their concentration and the customers’ desires and technological demands are in line (Wilson, 2000; Kissel & Beauvais, 1994). This study provides a comprehensive and inclusive framework for the understanding of the CSR/Firm Performance relationship. For this study, descriptive method of research is used and in order to explain the variance and relationship in the dependent variables, hypothesis testing was done. A total of 100 companies are selected comprises of SMEs from three major industries for SME; services, manufacturing and agricultural as categorised by SMIDEC.. From the result analysis it can be observed that the impact of CSR on SMEs is average. However, such initiatives in the long run will benefit the company on basis of better branding and goodwill of the company, loyalty of employees and improve the perception of the company.
